Jaguar Mk 2 dash board veneer
restoration and finishing.
Above and below: A typical Jaguar sedan Mrk2 dashboard with loose joints.
The hide glue Jaguar used tends to crystallize with age.
All of the joints are separated, cleaned and glued back together.
Above: Bare wood dash ready for veneering. Jaguar used both solid mahogany
as well as veneer grade plywood in the construction.
Above and below: The dash is then cross band veneerd with mahogany veneer. The mahogany veneer
makes up the substrate. The idea is that every joint is crossed with the grain running perpendicular
over the joint. The finished dash only shows the edges of the mahogany veneer.
Above: Bare dash top is constructed of solid mahogany. A thing of beauty in itself. These
two pieces were separated, cleaned and re-glued.
Above: Dash top with mahogany cross band veneer applied.
Below: veneer color check. I usually look under the backside of the glovebox lock to
see the original color. The veneer used is European walnut burl (pictured above the
lock) and is almost an exact match
Below:  The finished dash board after many, many pleasant hours of work
stripping old veneer, re-gluing the joints, cross band veneering, finish veneering,
clear coating and buffing.

A very original looking restoration.
The burl veneer has the same color and grain pattern as the original dash.
This dash board has been sold.
I also restore the rest of the interior wood and can provide new wood parts if required.
