Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 walnut burl dashboard.
These beautiful black walnut burl dashboards fit the Austin Healey 3000 BJ8. The dashboards are made just
like the originals using veneer core birch hardwood plywood with a real walnut burl veneer face. The thick
clear gloss coating has the same high gloss look as the original dash boards. All the cutouts for the gauges,
the switches and the glove box door lock are in the original positions.
Notice that the inside of the glove box door has matching walnut burl veneer. This is not strictly original, but
I think you will agree that it adds a rich finished look when you open the glove box door.
New chrome hinges have been mounted and the glove box door has been fit for you. This is a surprisingly
tricky little project ( I am ashamed to say I have destroyed more than one beautiful dashboard in the past
while mounting the hinges.) It is very important to mount the chrome hinges during the production of a dash
board. This is the only way to be certain of a perfectly fitting glove box door.
A special multi step process is used to achieve the thick clear gloss coating these dash boards originally
had. This finish will not dull and crack like the originals did. UV inhibitors in the clear coat keep the dash
looking brilliant for many years. The final layer of clear coat is hand rubbed and polished to a spectacular
gloss level.
I select the best walnut burl available to use on these dash boards. The burl has flowing curl pattern and is
an elegant brown color. The walnut is not stained, this is the actual color of the wood.
